One year of Cineclub calls for a celebration, and for us, celebration means cocktails, of course. 🍸

While we’ll be back in September with new Cineclub screenings, film discussions and drinks, August is the perfect time to slow down and catch up. Relax, rewatch some of our favourite Cineclub titles from the past year, and if you’re not sure what to sip alongside them… cloe.ontherocks and we have the perfect cocktail pairings waiting for you.

🍸🌵 Mezcal Paloma - Queer

Watched in May 2025 | Directed by Luca Guadagnino

Why: Set in 1950s Mexico City, Queer is a story of desire, isolation and searching for connection. The Mezcal Paloma captures that atmosphere perfectly: smoky, bittersweet and quietly seductive.

🍸💣 Hand Grenade - The Phoenician Scheme

Watched in June 2025 | Directed by Wes Anderson

Why: Yes, it’s tacky. No, it’s not exactly a great cocktail. But honestly, that’s part of its charm. The Hand Grenade is bold, colourful, and slightly absurd - a cocktail as extravagant and unexpected as Wes Anderson’s world.

🍸🌹 Negroni - The Roses

Watched in September 2025 | Directed by Jay Roach

Why: Sophisticated, elegant and unapologetically bitter, the Negroni reflects a relationship where charm and refinement slowly give way to rivalry and resentment. Ironically, this is also our two main characters favourite cocktail, which comes back in many scenes throughout the film!

🍸🎓 Manhattan - After the Hunt

Watched in October 2025 | Directed by Luca Guadagnino

Why: A cocktail for After the Hunt needs to feel like the film itself: intellectual tension, moral uncertainty, and an undertone of bitterness that never fully resolves. The Manhattan is a drink for someone who thinks they're in control… Until they're not.

🍸🧠 Vesper Martini - The Mastermind

Watched in November 2025 | Directed by Kelly Reichardt

Why: Precise, restrained, a little icy and quietly dangerous, the Vesper Martini is a masterclass in balance and versatility. A drink for someone who never reveals their full hand, and has quietly and carefully thought through every move.

🍸❤️‍🔥 Daiquiri - Die My Love

Watched in December 2025 | Directed by Lynne Ramsay

Why: Apart from the pun, the Daiquiri is a cocktail built on simplicity and intensity - three ingredients creating a sharp, perfectly balanced drink. It reflects the raw emotions at the heart of Lynne Ramsay’s film, where love, desire and despair coexist.

🍸⚡ Espresso Martini - Marty Supreme

Watched in January 2026 | Directed by Josh Safdie

Why: Full of energy, the Espresso Martini matches the pace of the film, with Marty constantly moving from one opportunity to the next. Stylish, restless and impossible to slow down.

🍸🌸 Floral Gin & Tonic - Hamnet

Watched in February 2026 | Directed by Chloé Zhao

Why: Delicate, floral and quietly elegant, the Gin & Tonic reflects the beauty and sadness of Hamnet. With botanical notes and a sense of simplicity, it evokes the English landscape, memory and the fragility of a story shaped by love and loss.

🍸💥 French 75 — One Battle After Another

Watched in March 2026 | Directed by Paul Thomas Anderson

Why: Named after the revolutionary group evoked in the film, the French 75 also happens to be one of the world’s most iconic cocktails. With its combination of elegance and explosive character, it perfectly captures the tension between celebration and conflict at the heart of the story.

🍸🔵 Blue Lagoon - Blue Velvet

Watched in April 2026 | Directed by David Lynch

Why: The name alone feels like a perfect match. Bright, beautiful and seemingly innocent, the Blue Lagoon reflects the polished surface of Blue Velvet’s suburban world - before revealing the darkness hidden underneath.

🍸🎭 Bellini - 8½

Watched in May 2026 | Directed by Federico Fellini

Why: A Bellini for a Fellini? Groundbreaking. Jokes apart, the cocktail is a timeless Italian classic for one of cinema’s greatest Italian classics. It captures the film’s dreamy, glamorous and nostalgic atmosphere with a touch of escapism.

🍸⛈️ Dark 'N' Stormy - The Odyssey

Watched in July 2026 | Directed by Christopher Nolan

Why: Wine plays a central role in Homer’s epic, but so do the storms. The Dark ’N’ Stormy captures the unpredictable journey of Odysseus, combining dark rum and ginger beer to evoke stormy waters, distant shores and the long, uncertain road home.

See you in September for more films, conversations and cocktails.
