Frequently Asked Questions
General Questions
1. What is CineMì?
CineMì is an international cineclub based in Milan. We organise film screenings at the cinema followed by informal discussions in English, bringing together locals and internationals who share a love for cinema.
2. Who can join CineMì events?
Everyone is welcome! Whether you are a film enthusiast or just looking for a social evening, our events are open to anyone who enjoys watching and discussing films.
3. Do I need to be a film expert to participate?
Not at all! Our discussions are relaxed and open to everyone, whether you are a casual moviegoer or a dedicated cinephile.
Event Registration
4. How do I register for an event?
Simply visit our website, browse the upcoming events, and register by paying the €3 fee to secure your spot. You will receive a confirmation email with all the necessary details.
5. Is registration mandatory?
Yes, registration is required to ensure we have enough space for everyone. It also helps us organise the post-screening discussions more effectively.
6. Can I attend without registering in advance?
We strongly recommend registering in advance, as spaces are limited. If the event is not fully booked, you may be able to join on the spot, but we cannot guarantee availability.
7. Can I bring a friend who has not registered?
We encourage everyone to register in advance. If your friend has not registered, they may be able to join if there is still space available, but we cannot guarantee it. They would also need to pay the €3 registration fee to secure their spot.
Fees and Payment
8. Why is there a fee to join the CineClub?
The small fee helps cover organisational costs, booking at the bar, and the facilitation of the CineClub. It also supports the development of future events.
9. What does the registration fee cover?
The €3 fee covers the organisational aspects of the event, including the coordination of the screening and discussion. Please note that it does not include your cinema ticket or drinks at the bar.
10. Can I pay at the event instead of online?
To keep things organised, we only accept online payments during registration. This helps us manage attendance and keep the event running smoothly.
11. Is the fee refundable if I cannot attend?
Unfortunately, the fee is non-refundable, as it helps cover the planning and logistics of the event. However, we can keep it as a holding fee for you to use at the next event or future events..
12. What is the total cost to attend a CineClub event (registration, ticket, and drink)?
The total cost ranges from €14 to €22, depending on the cinema ticket (€6–€12), plus a €3 registration fee and a drink (€5–€7).
Film Screenings
13. Where do the screenings take place?
Our screenings are held at various cinemas across Milan, including Cinema Godard, Beltrade, Anteo, and others. Check the event details on our website for the exact location.
14. Are the films always shown in English?
Not necessarily. We prioritise films in their original version with Italian subtitles. Some films may be in other languages, giving us a chance to experience cinema from different cultures.
15. Will there be subtitles?
Yes, films are usually shown in their original version with Italian subtitles. We always specify the language in the event description.
16. How long do the events usually last?
The event typically lasts around 3.5 hours, with a 2-hour 20-minute film screening followed by a 45-minute to 1-hour discussion. Duration may vary depending on the film and audience engagement.
Discussions and Socialising
17. Do I have to participate in the discussion?
No pressure! You are welcome to just listen and enjoy the conversation. Participation is completely optional.
18. What if I am not comfortable speaking in English?
That is completely fine. You can participate as much or as little as you like. The atmosphere is informal and friendly, and you are welcome to share your thoughts in English or Italian.
19. Is there an opportunity to meet people before or after the film?
Yes, many participants arrive a bit early to chat, and we always head to a nearby bar after the film for drinks and discussion.
20. Can I leave before the discussion is finished?
It’s perfectly fine to leave early if you need to. Just please be mindful of the group and try not to disturb the conversation when you leave.
Other Practicalities
21. What should I do if I arrive late?
Please arrive on time, as some cinemas may not allow entry once the film has started. If you're late, avoid disturbing others. You’re welcome to join the discussion afterwards.
22. Is there any food or drink available at the cinema?
This depends on the cinema. Some venues offer snacks and drinks, while others do not. You can always join us at the bar afterwards for a drink and a chat
23. What if I would like to attend but have specific access needs?
Please contact us at cinemi.milan@gmail.com, and we’ll check it together.
24. Can I suggest a film for a future screening?
We are always open to suggestions. Feel free to email us at cinemi.milan@gmail.com with your ideas.
